Fancy a relaxed evening of Newport history chat? Every few weeks we gather downstairs at the Pen and Wig pub for our Newport History Social. There’s no set day (though it’s often a Tuesday or Wednesday), and no rigid agenda — just a couple of hours of friendly conversation about the city’s past.
You’re welcome to come and go as you please; no one’s expected to stay for the whole two hours. Some people bring along things they’ve discovered, others simply enjoy listening and picking up new stories. Often one memory sparks another, and the conversations take us in unexpected directions.
Unlike more formal groups with lectures and fixed topics, our meet-ups are informal, friendly, and welcoming to all. There’s also no pressure to contribute — you’re just as welcome to sit back with a pint and enjoy hearing about Newport’s history as you are to share your own knowledge.

Our next social takes place on Tuesday 10th September, 2025 between 6-8pm. We're usually there around 5:30pm for some food and you're welcome to join us.
